With all the effort in Las Vegas to provide upscale and luxurious hotels and casinos for the Las Vegas vacationing visitor and world of tourists that visit the area on an annual basis, it is only natural for a few details to get overlooked in the extremely difficult world of construction and remodeling in these types of commercial settings. In the case of the Rio Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, the famous hotel proprietors have been the target of claims that the casino did not pull the proper permits before construction began, creating a severe problem with the methods in which the construction permits are handed down in the chain of command that controls these types of projects. While it has been maintained that the renovation work is cosmetic and requires no special permits, city officials have gone ahead and dispatched inspectors to take the time and ascertain whether or not the Rio Las Vegas Hotel and Casino has complied with city code or not in their remodeling of the world-famous Las Vegas Hotel and Casino in the gambling mecca in the desert.
In fact, the venerable hotel shut down entire sections of floors so that the remodeling could be carefully inspected by city inspectors, ensuring that there is no interference in the effort to ascertain what type of work is actually being done and whether or not it is purely cosmetic in nature. While it is not common knowledge, contractors and construction companies that can somehow effectively bypass the permitting process stand to earn and save tremendous amounts of money in the construction process, as the permitting office has never been known for being fast, inexpensive or particularly qualified for the job. There are many reasons for sidestepping the permitting process, not the least of which is the fact that the entire process is somewhat redundant. While the concept of following the Las Vegas city building code for public safety is naturally important, the permitting process in itself is pointless to the extreme and has very little bearing on any type of real-world situation.
It remains to be seen what results will be gleaned from the city inspectors time with the Rio Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. Certainly, what ever modifications and innovations have been completed already up to this point will very likely pass inspection, leaving only whatever future renovations might be slated for completion up in the air as to the legality of their implementation.
